Description
This original painting by British Visual Artist Neil McBride is inspired by Gaping Gill (also known as Gaping Ghyll) is a natural cave in North Yorkshire, England. It is located on the southern slopes of Ingleborough. Gaping Gill is a deep pothole with the stream Fell Beck flowing into it. After falling through one of the largest known underground chambers in Britain, the water disappears into the boulder strewn floor and eventually resurges adjacent to Ingleborough Cave.
At 98-metre (322 ft) Gaping Gill is the second deepest cave in England and still retains the record for the tallest unbroken waterfall in England and the largest underground chamber naturally open to the surface.
