Reference photos for this series of Chinese Market Watercolors were taken at a Market near the city of Dali in the Yunnan Provice of China. The two women were haggling over the price and condition of a live chicken. The Bai Minority people of China live in the Yunnan Province. The typical dress on market day is dark blue velvet head covering, or a bright blue cotton head covering which has a white design, bright blue blouses or dresses, light colored jade jewelry. The shoppers carry a basket on the back into which they put their purchases.
