Description
This the third in my series titled Firmament Cracked - Inside Trauma. Note: this series is meant to convey serious concepts, and not to be pretty, fun, or beautiful. To understand the theme behind them, please read descriptions This series is both intensely personal and universal. It concerns things which are close up and things which are global, pertaining to what we believe in, what we see and trust, and what really is, or what we learn about the things we used to believe in. It is about everyone. That ought to become frightening if one considers its implications. However, just as Medieval scholars once believed that the world was the centre of a universe where the sun and planets revolved around it, and that the sky was a solid canopy--hence the word used in the King James Bible, 'firmament' meaning something solid--above it, out of which angels or the rain could come down when God opened a window in it, we often believe that we know for certain how life works, who we can trust and who we are in the context of the rest of society. The beginning of Trauma in which the 'firmament' or one's belief in a solid and reliable sphere in which to exist and interact is turned inside out, begins with the appearance of MASKS AND CRACKS. When one sees these appear in and behind the eyes of the person one most trusted or behind the sky in which one's world is suspended, one starts to realize that nothing will ever, ever be the same again, and one wonders fleetingly if even one's own perception can be trusted. This is terrifying, but it is only the beginning of the Trauma.

Thank you so very much. Petko, Vivian, and Gun, for taking the time to look at this piece and read the description. I am opening an exhibit of this series on Sunday in Second Life (a virtual world) in the Galeria Mexico. There are now 12 pieces, and perhaps more will come eventually. Your comments give me courage to present my work and believe that people will take something from it. It is not an easy thing to represent one's life path and particularly the difficulties. Even more difficult is the concern that the work will fail to connect or will be met with adverse responses. Yes, Vivian, "Where there is life, there is hope." as the saying goes. Another saying is, "With life, it's just one thing after another." I survived trauma and recovery but now have health issues to deal with. That's life. We smile and make art!! : )) You three made me smile today! Thanks!
