Description
Colorized photo from May, 15 1915
Original Title: Rogers Ink Works fire
Location: 204 E 9th St, NY
This scene had exposure issues. Thick white smoke, and the sun is coming right through it. It made for back light in the image, in an era where back light was hard to shoot against. So the trucks lost a lot of detail as did the people.
It took a while to find out what that thing in the foreground was. It's called a Water Tower, and based on what I found, its from around 1897 or so. And it was red.
There was no information about this location. I found the address by looking up the NY Dog Exchange, as for what they did, I haven't a clue. You can see the water rushing out the door of the ink place. The tangle of hoses must have been an issue, there are spots where they've been lifted up by random boards.
