I like this so much as artwork. And I love that it is evocative and stirred feelings, thoughts, and debate. I agree art can be a source for activism and nonconformity. v/f

Thank you Dan and Sharon. Barbaric things only bring further barbaric things... The so-called mentally ill are ill most of the times but that's probably not even the point is it? Whenever a good hearted man visits a country with the death sentence, the passport is always ready and the name of the closest consulate too. I'm a humanist so I'll never understand why you have to kill someone who has killed. Cesare Beccaria in the XVIII century wrote that masterpiece about death sentence and the fact that it doesn't even prevent crime. We study it in history books and I have never seen it. I don't care if one has a life ahead before being executed it's barbarian and highly ineffective.

Nicla, to put your mind at ease, though some states in the US have the death penalty, there are many appeals and many years before anyone actually is executed, it does seem barbaric, but then, some actions done by the so called mentally ill are barbaric...I don't necessarilly agree with it and I would never want to be the one to pull the plug... but some take innocent lives and need to pay in some drastic manner... You are a kind hearted man my friend and have no worries in our country.

thank you Sharon! Don, I have to confess I had missed your comment! It is highly appreciated. I am not sure it is politics in a strict sense...It has more to do with activism and society. If it helps for a better understanding, the motivation for this piece stems from a discussion with a collegue on a confidential thing that of course I can't report. I had just said that I was starting to understand the reason why in U.S.A. even the mentally ill are sentenced to death. My point was that everyone of us can have mental problems and/or get seriously ill but not all of us (a small percentage actually) will become dangerous. As a reply I was alerted about this case and well I have to admit I felt bad about what I had just said... Death penalty gives shivers to someone born and raised in any European country, btw. I actually remember quite well that one of my first questions when I went to Chicago was "do you have the death sentence here?". The answer kind of scared me so they added "but it's not applied much" :)
