Description
This is a European Starling. I spotted this bird on a tree limb in front of Grace Church in New York City. Interesting fact: "In 1890s, 100 starlings were released into New York Citys Central Park. It is said that Eugene Schieffelin wanted all of New York to see the birds mentioned in the plays of William Shakespeare. Until that time, starlings were not native to North America and were imported from England. Scientists estimate that descendants from those original released flocks now number more than 200 million in the United States." Must have been a chilly day for him to be puffed up so - great capture
Emmy Vickers replied:
Dawn, you are absolutely right. It was freezing at the time I captured him. Good catch on that fact. Thank you for the compliment.
