Description
I painted this en plein air on the opening day for the Enchanted Forest in 1991. They had the local politicians, newspapers, and TV reporters present. A live band played music in the large screened patio area. I was invited to paint in situ as part of the entertainment and celebrations. I sat on a bench near the music at the front of the park. It was a lovely day, listening to the speeches and the music as I painted. I was interviewed by the reporters. They even showed me working on my painting as part of the local television news. I was featured in several newspapers and magazines at the time.
People stopped by and chatted to me as I worked. I did this on a canvas and used acrylic paints. At that time, they had large coquina rocks situated as I have painted them. They have since been relocated. The rocks were particularly interesting because of their shapes, textures, and holes that were made by natural erosion.
The Enchanted Forest was purchased through Brevard County's Environmentally Endangered Lands Program. It is located in the southern limits of the City of Titusville, Florida. It preserves a diversity of the natural habitats found in Brevard. Several miles of hiking trails allow visitors to enjoy the natural beauty of the Sanctuary. There are five basic habitat types in the Enchanted Forest Sanctuary: aka, scrub, mesic and hydric hammock, wet prairies, and pine flatwood. Wildlife species found here include the Eastern Indigo snake, Florida scrub lizard, gopher tortoise, white-tailed deer, and bobcat. I have seen bald eagles, birds of many types, boars, and quite a few nine-banded armadillos and many other creatures.
I donated this painting to the Sanctuary, where it can be seen on display in their museum.

So marvelous and wonderfully peaceful is this landscape, AnnaJo. Gorgeously painted... Love the sky with those soft, somehow lyrical clouds. f,l
