Description
Whidbey island Farm Tour Series #1
Every year for the past couple of years the local conservation district and extension office sponsor a farm tour here on Whidbey Island. I've been creating a painting each year to be used in marketing the tour. That year's painting is then auctioned off and the proceeds go to support the following year's tour. What makes these paintings so unique is that I include the shape of Whidbey Island somewhere on the animal. "Earl of Whidbey" was the first painting in the series. My friend pig farmer Fran caused a mild ruckus when he suggested that Earl should have a more feminine moniker because of his apparent lack of male accoutrements. I pointed out that the angle of the animal in the picture discreetly hid Earl's stuff. Fran was not to be outdone however as he ended up purchasing the painting after a lively, hotly contested auction, and then renamed it "Pearl of Whidbey".
