Revisiting my favourite spot in Port Douglas, Queensland, Australia on my Son Harvey's "best day ever".
This is the Dusky Moorhen (Gallinula tenebrosa) admiring the water lilies in a brackish lagoon just outside the city, rather like the Purple Swamphen I posted recently!
A delightful bird and very similar in appearance to the European Moorhen (Gallinula chloropus).
If you look closely at the bird's right foot, you can see the sheer size of the toes, with very little webbing, but splayed out to the front, sides and back to give the large surface area which allows them to walk on the lily pads
