Description
This image is from a large collection of vintage posters that were designed to promote musicals, theater plays, operas, magical acts and ballets. These amazing images offer a fascinating and sometimes startling glimpse into American popular culture in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Many of the images reflect a quainter time in America, before the moderating influence of political correctness and liberation movements. From a twenty-first century context, a few of these images might seem somewhat offensive. Nevertheless, there's plenty of creativity and visual beauty in these compositions, which makes them perfect for decorating a den, a game room or a study. They also look very nice in bars, lounges, pool halls and restaurants. My contribution to these public domain works is in performing a digital restoration of them. My goal is to return the artwork to a state that is as close as possible to when it was first created. Some of the images come to me in very poor condition, but after a few hours of painstaking touch-ups, the image looks new again. (I encourage you to compare my work to similar images offered by others who merely post a raw scan and then hope for the best.) I also accept commissions to perform digital restorations of private images. I provide this service at a very reasonable price, so if you have old photos that need some tender loving care, just email me through this site.
