Description
"Devils Paintbrush" by Debbie Oppermann. An open field of brilliant orange and yellow Devils Paintbrush, or Hawkweed, at Key River Ontario Canada, was quite eye catching in its vibrant, bold display of color and set amidst the tall grasses. Hawkweed, sometimes called King Devil, is invasive and hard to get rid of once established, but who could not love the dramatic, impressive display of this perennial beauty.
As a point of interest, at one time it was believed that the Hawkweeds improved peoples eyesight, Hawks, whose survival depended on good eyesight are said to have visited the Hawkweeds to drink their juice to strengthen their eyesight.
