Like you and I, daylilies greet
the morning refreshed, thankful
for the daily bread of light.
Yet hardly do we turn a page of our lives
and the cry goes up that life is short,
our cup too little filled.
Learn from the daylily. Within
the meager dole of one short day,
its life by noon is already half spent,
and by evening is no more. Even in
a span of a hundred years, few of us
will have given as much pleasure,
or as freely, as one of these.
