Description
This statue of Daniel Webster is part of a national memorial to one of the greatest early politicians of America, who represented the state of Massachusetts as a United States Senator, and served the country as Secretary of State. He began his career as a lawyer and then as a congressman, and was well-known for his great oratorical skills, whether in a small-town courtroom, before the Supreme Court, in the chambers of Congress, or on the political stump. He ran three times for the presidency of the United States, losing each of his bids. The Daniel Webster Memorial is located at Scott Circle in Washington, DC, near his home at 1603 Massachusetts Avenue.
