"Cripes A' Mighty" P-51D Mustang Print
Maj. George E. Preddy Jr.
George Preddy's 3rd and last P-51 Mustang, "Cripes A' Mighty" (352nd Fighter Group, 328th Fighter Squadron) displayed one of the most recognizable paint schemes in the 8th Air Force with its distinctive blue trim scheme. Major Preddy served in New Guinea and Australia flying P-40s until 1943 when he was transferred to the European Theater. With 26.83 confirmed enemy air-to-air victories, Maj. Preddy flew "Cripes A' Mighty" as the top P-51D Mustang ace and the 7th highest scoring American ace. After claiming 2 Messerschmitt Bf-109s on Christmas Day 1944, Maj. Preddy was killed in action during the Battle of the Bulge by friendly ground fire upon his return to base.
