Description
Crater Lake volcanic wall. Erosion features on the wall of Crater Lake, Oregon, USA. Crater Lake formed around 6900 years ago, following the collapse of a large volcano. The lake fills the volcanic caldera left behind, which is over 1.2 kilometres deep. The lake itself is around 600 metres deep, and the height of the caldera wall ranges from 300-600 metres above the level of the lake (equivalent to over 2000 metres above sea level). The highest point of the caldera wall, Hillman Peak (2484 metres), is at centre. The lake is around 8 kilometres wide and 10 kilometres long.
