Cold Comfort
I wonder, do you look back with regret
at all we shared, now lost for good and aye,
or was it mere distraction to forget,
not worth a memory to dignify?
For my own part it was a watershed,
renewal of the hope of love reborn;
for you, I think, a masquerade instead,
once ended no necessity to mourn.
I like to think perhaps you were afraid
of the emotions I roused in your heart,
and that was why, at last, I was betrayed;
but that's a fantasy; it plays no part.
Still, thinking you a coward hurts far less
than truth: my heart you chose not to possess.

I love the style you used on the photo. It creates a moonlit sheen. Gorgeous work and story.

LF This is a fantastic painting! The features are well defined. I really like the addition of the blue tones.
