Description
"Country Covered Bridge"
by Debra and Dave Vanderlaan
... Captured at the beginning of the day,
at the end of autumn,
when the oak trees
have finally turned gold and bronze
and the sun is low in the sky,
beams of light
pouring through the tree branches...
This is the sweet red wooden
covered bridge at Granny's Squirrel,
North Carolina.
This tiny little town is named after Granny,
the nickname given
to one of the Cherokee Indian women
who lived in the area
and was loved
by the folks living in this region.
Deep in the Smoky Mountains
at the western end
of the Blue Ridge mountain chain
of the Appalachians,
the bridge is a well-known icon
along the country roadway spanning
between the Cherokee County towns
of Murphy and Andrews
and the Nantahala River Gorge...

This is so amazingly beautiful. The autumn colors combined with the sunset, the streams of light through the trees and that pop of red on the covered bridge just make this an amazing work of art.
