Description
I began painting in 1989 right after Hurricane Hugo devastated St. Croix. I have taken breaks, but never stopped. This was painted in 1992. I used to cry when my mom combed my hair because my head did hurt a lot. Combing hair was a necessary, and important activity like bathing and eating.
Sometimes there were fierce competitions. The woman who plaited the best CONGO and who could braid the fastest was well respected in the Village. She was a STAR like Michael Jackson...well, not quite... almost. The young woman always needs a good friend to comb that hair for her.
And of course there is the gossip, and melee, and sometimes the pouring out of the heart.

Such wonderful, rich colors and a delightful story! Even without your eloquent commentary, your paintings all tell a story, which is a talent I admire!
