Description

While visting Charleston old town, I saw this alley beside a home separating the servants quarters from the main house. I just stood there and took it all in. I wondered how many times the servants crossed this path to prepare meals and assist the owners as they prepare to go on a trip to Atlanta or other parts of the South. I quickly made a sketch and took pictures for future reference.
When I returned I made a small painting (8 x 10) as a study. This is the result. I will eventually make a larger painting one day when I'm stuck in the studio because of bad weather. I hope you enjoy it.
