Description
This beautiful Celtic Cross in the coastal town of North Berwick in Scotland is an example of when it's an excellent idea to read the inscription. The cross on Anchor Green was adjacent to the remains of an old church and I took it to simply be part of the ruins.
It was years later that I would research the back story of this beautiful cross and discover that it was actually a cross erected as a memorial for a young lady from Glasgow who heroically gave her life in 1889 saving the life of a drowning boy. The name of that heroic 19 year old was Catherine Watson, and I'm glad that I learned about her story eventually.
And truly what a beautiful way to honor her memory all these years later in the little Scottish town where her story reached its climax over a century ago
