New Orleans is famous for all of its beautiful wrought iron gates. Some of these gates are basically as old as the city itself. The French Quarter is chock full of postcard picture examples, all within an easy walk of each other.
The Wrought Iron Trend arrived in the Big Easy in the 1850′s as it made its way from Europe. The decorative aspect is taken to another level in NOLA. The Spanish and French Artchitecture influence are evident. Wrought iron was a show of wealth that made its way from Europe to New Orleans where today it is a work of art in today's world. Often one of the most unique features of a N'awlins' home is not the house itself but the gate and the fence. The details can be amazing on the fences and gates.
The fences, gates and grand doorways are right there for all to enjoy and see. They are fun to photograph and view. Many of these date back to the 1850′s when New Orleans was one of the richest cities in the United States. Enjoy them and thank the many owners for keeping them up.
