Description
This is a hand-painted derivative painting from an original taken by an employee of the Fish and Wildlife Service and then placed in the public domain. Elements like the lighthouse and the pelican/birds have been added to the original and the entire composite was then painted on a Wacom tablet in a realistic digital oil style. Holgate Beach Bulkhead is an older work but one never before posted.
Holgate Beach is on Long Beach Island, New Jersey - one of the coastal islands that like the Carolina Outer Banks is supposed to help protect the New Jersey shore from dangerous storms. However, several hurricanes have actually cut the island in half - permanently - and Holgate Beach was decimated by Hurricane Sandy.
General Information from the Long Island Beach website:
Most of the southern end of the Island below Beach Haven is called Holgate. South Beach Haven and Beach Haven Inlet are usually considered smaller subdivisions of this community. Holgate is controlled by Long Beach Township. Holgate is a quiet community where vacationers enjoy a short walk to the beach. Most own their own summer cottage or come to stay in one of the many motels. There is even a trailer-park in the area.
The southern end of Long Beach Island below Holgate and Beach Haven Inlet is home to the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge. This two and one-half mile stretch of beach and marshland is closed to visitors during the summer season to protect the animals and environment. However, many people enjoy the natural surroundings during the late Fall through early Spring.
From Wikipedia - Long Beach Island, NJ
Long Beach Island (colloquially known as LBI or simply The Island) is a barrier island and summer colony along the Atlantic Ocean coast of Ocean County, New Jersey in the United States. Aligned north-south, the northern portion is generally slightly higher end low-density residential, whereas the southern portion possesses higher-density housing and considerable commercial development. The primary industries include tourism, fishing, and real estate. The only access point to the island by land is a single causeway.
The island is home to about 20,000 people on a year-round basis. The population is distributed among six separate municipalities, the largest of which is Long Beach Township. However, the island's population swells significantly during the summer months and reaches about 100,000 people, including part-time residents and tourists. The island's close-knit communities are largely affluent and contain vacation homes for wealthy residents who reside elsewhere, especially New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut.

This painting is an ORIGINAL digital art work created on the computer from composite elements, hand-painted on a Wacom tablet using a variety of painting styles and digital mediums. (See longer explanation below of why this qualifies as an original even if it is based on an image in the public domain).

I am a western New York based artist with a passion for the sea and a deep love for the natural world around me. My paintings are sometimes based on images in the public domain or on elements from classic art work. Other paintings are based on original photographs. All are painted on a Wacom tablet using a variety of painting programs and filters and because the final creations are entirely digital in nature they are considered to be original art work not reproductions.
According to the International Association of Fine Art Digital Print Makers (IAFADP), "An original digital print is not based upon using original artwork outside of the computer. The artist may use elements as source materials, such as photographs, drawings or other appropriated images, but THE FINAL FORM OF THE WORK EXISTS ONLY IN THE COMPUTER AND AS THE FINAL PRINT OR AS AN EDITION OF PRINTS." Furthermore, as explained by George Whale and Naren Barfield in a speech to the IAFADP in 2001, - with an electronic pen (stylus), drawings and paintings can be created entirely on the computer using synthetic tools and materials, many of which have their own distinctive qualities." And according to ArtBusiness.com, there is a distinct difference in value between a print/scan of an original watercolor, painting or photograph "...as opposed to original digital works of art created by digital artists entirely or in part on computers which ARE considered to be unique." Similarly, the International Fine Print Dealers Association states, "The IFPDA defines an original print as a work of art on paper which has been conceived by the artist to be realized as a print, rather than as a reproduction of a work in another medium." This is exactly how I create my original works and each painting is the result of many layers of hand-painting in various styles (impasto, pen and ink, digital oils, etc.) then overlaid upon one another.
You can purchase quality traditional style fine art prints of these digital paintings, giclee canvas prints, acrylic and metallic prints by Lianne Schneider. They are beautiful and stylish decor for any wall in your home, office or lobby. My works include detailed landscapes, seascapes, still lifes, flowers and more...all with the look and feel of classic oil paintings. The FAA-Watermark will NOT appear on any final product!
Please contact the artist, Lianne Schneider, directly if you purchase this image as a giclee print on canvas, framed or unframed. A signed and numbered Certificate of Authenticity is available for each canvas indicating title of the work, my name, date of creation, a thumbnail of the painting, the origin of original work if the painting is a derivative, the number of your print in the limited printing and a guarantee that the work will no longer be available to the public in a canvas format once a total of 25 canvas prints are sold from all potential vendors.
