Description
BROUGH SUPERIOR SS 100
2012, graphite on paper, 20.5 x 14
This drawing depicts an SS 100 seen in Lucca, Italy at the Piazza Anfiteatro at the end of a Sunday run by the Club Balestrero VMC (Veteran Motor Car Association) in May, 2008. At the time, there were so many Classic Motorcycles that I failed to actually stand back and look closely at any vehicle. Later, after seeing a video of Jay Leno and his 39 SS100 I realized that I'd seen a running example and had recorded enough information to create a drawing. This drawing was created as an exercise in reflections. From the Italian Piazza background to the stone and chrome, everything we see is a function of reflected light. Built from 1924 to 1939 at the Haydn Road, Nottingham, England factory, the 998cc 50 degree, over head valve V twin was the Rolls Royce of Motorcycles, guaranteed to go 100+ miles per hour. www.normanbean.carbonmade.com

Dear Romeo MI, Thank you for visiting this image of my Brough Superior SS100 drawing. Have you visited my personal website www.normanbean.carbonmade.com For what it is worth, I still posses this original artwork, framed and hanging in my studio. While I would be loathe to part with this artwork, if you are serious about owning it, that would be a happy moment, and maybe we could make an arrangement. Feel free to contact me, normanbean3102@gmail.com for details. Thank You.

Thank you Sunil. Not sure what the congratulations are for, but thanks. By the way, your SKC 0220 and SKC 3281 are wonderful captures...

I guess T.E. Lawrence was trying to dis-prove George Brough's claim that every SS 100 could attain 100 mph without modification - at least on British country roads.

Agreed, probably the most historically famous two wheeled machine ever produced. Lawrence of Arabia. And sheer ahead of it's time speed.

One of the better artistic drawings of this fine classic Well done!

I did enjoy this particular moto. I saw it on a Sunday afternoon in June 08'. The owner had been riding in the Tuscan hills between Pisa and Lucca with a large group of antique cars and motorcycles. I became more interested in creating a drawing when, in the research process, I saw that Jay Leno owned a 39' SS100, and had produced a U-tube video touting it's restoration, then starting it up and taking it for a ride. My day job is restoring antique Harleys, but this, what a cool project that would make.....
