Here: Waco Suspension Bridge and Washington Avenue Bridge (The Waco Steel Bridge)
There is a nice little town between Austin and Dallas - it is the city of Waco in the heartland of Texas. If in Waco visit the Waco Suspension bridge. It might be the most beautiful bridge in Texas with, perhaps, the exception of its elder sister, the Pennybacker Bridge in Austin.
Anyway, walk onto the Waco Suspension bridge and go halfway across so that you can sit on the cables where they dip to their lowest point just a few feet from the ground. Watch the water, watch the mud ducks spalsh, watch the traffic on I-35 and then think back to 1870 when the bridge was opened. Cattle, horses, wagons and carriages, and of course people used this bridge to cross the Brazos River between east and west Waco. Animals and people both had to pay a toll.
Today, it is free. It is at its most beautiful at sunset when the stucco is bathed in a golden glow. Also, look underneath the bridge and you can see the original bricks. When it was built, it had old-timey crenellated brick turrets at the apexes. Now it's all smooth.
