Description
A tiny little yellow rumped warbler balanced precariously on a flower stalk of my backyard aloe vera plant. He was contentedly feeding upon the flowers when a pair of ruby throated humming birds attacked. He tried to hold his own but the angry persistent hummers continually harassed it. With seeming dismay, it flew up to the top of the hummingbird feeder and seemed to mope as the hummers claimed the territory feeding at both the flowers and the bird feeder. Eventually, the fully sated hummers flew away. The yellow rumped warbler went back down to the flowers and resumed feeding upon the pretty tubular yellow-orange flowers. I watched and photographed and sketched the entire event for a couple hours. I painted the scene in acrylic with the use of the real flowers and feeder but did have to resort to using my photographs to get the actual details of the tiny birds. Although, I have neighbors, who tell me that they have hummingbirds year round, mine seem to come to my Florida backyard only during the winter.
