Description
This is a small section of a very large Bird of Paradise bush in my backyard. My yard is full of these plants--perhaps the previous owner liked Hummingbirds as much as I do. The Bird of Paradise flower nectar is their staple food. Bees also love the nectar and often there is a bit of competition between the hummingbirds and the bees. Also, hummingbirds are very territorial and each large Bird of Paradise bush belongs to a different bird.
This is a painting in horizontal format, perfect for any kind of print. Because it is highly textured, canvas wrap will show that off the most.

I love this flower and have been trying to grow it unsuccessfully. Maybe I should just hang it on my wall:) f/v

Thanks Eti! Yes, they are hard to start them out and they hate to be disturbed--it can take then 2-3 years of recovery for a single transplant if you have them in pot. In Southern California where I live they are almost weedy... mine are about twice as big as I am and can be so wide that you need 4-6 people around to be able to hug them.. and these are not the giant ones since those have white huge flowers...
