Description
"Big Falls" is located deep in the woods of State Game Lands #13, along Heberly Run in north eastern, Pennsylvania, USA. Getting there is not an easy task. There are no blazed trails here, just the stream to keep you on the right course. The advantage is that this landmark is absolutely pristine, with no sign of the hand of man anywhere.
Upon arrival at this beautiful spot, the first sight of Big Falls left us practically speechless. We just stood there in amazement for several moments. Then, camera's were mated to the most appropriate lenses to catch nature's magic that was right there before our eyes.
This shot was snapped ...and then it happened, the dreaded "Error 99" began flashing on my display. There was no getting around it, my trusty camera had failed. This is the last photograph my Canon EOS 10D ever captured.
This photograph was captured on September 1st, 2011. It was taken with a Canon 10D DSLR camera body, through a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens at the 17mm focal length. The shutter speed was 1.5 seconds, with an aperture of f/13, ISO 100. The camera was mounted on a Manfrotto tripod, with a Manfrotto 222 Pistol Grip head. A remote shutter release cable was also used.
This image was processed in Photomatix Pro v4.1.3 and Photoshop CS2. Five bracketed exposures, shot one stop apart, were merged to reveal the full dynamic range of the light and shadows in this scene.

This is a gorgeous image of Big Falls, Gene! I made a trip to this falls a few years back, but wasn't able to get any decent images because I was cursed by the sun. A return trip to this falls is a must. Beautiful work!

Thanks, Joel! The light rain and clouds offered perfect lighting on this September visit. Bright sun has ruined so many of my waterfall shots (including Upper Twin on this trip). Friends think I'm crazy when I go hiking on overcast days, but as you know, it usually provides the best light for shooting the falls. Regards, Gene
