Description
This painting depicts P-51D Mustangs "Big Beautiful Doll" and "Ferocious Frankie" escorting B-17G Flying Fortress (G-BEDF) better known as"Sally-B" or "Memphis Belle" over historic Duxford during the Flying Legends display of 2011.
Later the same day, at the end of a mass fly-past, "Big Beautiful Doll" suffered a mid-air collision with a Skyraider. The Skyraider landed, minus a large piece of wing, but the Mustang crashed near the airfield, her pilot parachuting to safety.

Elaine this painting is simply beautiful...my father was with the U.S. Armys` 8th Air Corps and flew out of England. His B-17, the Off Limits, was shot down over Anzio in 1943. He bailed and was captured by the Germans and spent the duration of the war as a POW...gold medal work L/V
