Description
This 360-degree, false-color view shows Opportunity's last stop on the now-familiar surface of Meridiani Planum before reaching different terrains associated with the very large "Victoria Crater." In the center of the mosaic is "Beagle Crater," an impact crater about 35 meters (115 feet) wide. On the far left and wrapping around to the far right, Opportunity's tracks are visible approaching the crater. Opportunity, MER-B (Mars Exploration Rover - B) has been on Mars since 2004 and has functioned 30 times longer than expected due to solar cell cleaning events that have been successful. It's twin, the Spirit Rover, ceased operating in 2009 and by 2010 had stopped sending communications.
