Description
Linda Simon created this painting in acrylics in 1983."American Express" a history book cover, was a college assignment for her illustration class. Linda no longer paints in acrylics. She uses a 000 paint brush and the paint is dry before it gets to the canvas. Linda now paints in non-toxic oils. Ms. Simon and her daughter Hillary live about 50 yards from the New York, Susquehanna & Western train track. Linda has a toy train extended from the ceiling of her studio. As the awesome sound of the train whistle blows passing through town....so does the toy train in the studio! Copyright~ All Rights Reserved

Hey Linda, a charming picture this is however this is my territory really so don't go painting any more trains! I know the sound of that awesome train whistle from my time on the footplate. American locomotives had that lonesome sound produced by the chime whistle whereas most British locomotives had a sort of short deeper tone and much less dramatic. When in the fifties some of the newer locomotives were equipped with American type chime whistles we all, drivers and firemen alike, couldn't resist pulling that whistle cord at any opportunity!
Linda Simon replied:
I promise no more trains! ha ha Now every time I look at my painting I will be thinking of you Mike and your time in your train! ox
