Acoustic Guitar on Artist's Table - Oil on Canvas - 2012.

This painting was the result of a much needed vacation in the beautiful country of Cuba. In November 2011, I traveled to Cayo Coco and to Cuba for the very first time. I found time to explore, rest and relax but also to think about my next paintings with many scattered sketches. Months prior to my departure I listened to Spanish classical guitar songs more frequently. Having always loved Spanish music, and the classical acoustic guitar, a painting of an acoustic guitar was needed.

I met a fellow Cuban artist and discussed our passion for the fine arts. I purchased a few paintings of his as I wanted to help him continue what he was doing. His sunny smile, surrounded by his wrinkles, was a great sight, aside from the beautiful pieces that were added to my art collection.

After my trip, I went to work in my studio by gathering all my scattered sketches and put the pieces together. I painted with warmer and vibrant colours to capture that spirit. Cuban's warm hospitality and friendly people certainly played a role too.
