Description
A white horse perks up as it sees its owner bringing breakfast on a cool, frosty morning. Ears alert, she nickers and starts walking towards the barn to receive her flake of hay.
This painting evokes a personal memory of being that person who is greeted by a horse in this way.
It was my job to feed the horses and milk the goats before going to school. I would fill the bottom of a milk bucket with warm water, drop a wash cloth into the water and head towards the barn. My cat always greeted me at the gate and hitched a ride on my shoulder. As I approached the barn, the horses lifted their heads and approached the opening in the barn from which I would toss out their respective flakes of hay. Each having their own. But before that, I would unload the cat into the opening in the barn wall by leaning towards it and he then would jump off my shoulder and onto the ledge. All the goats would be lined up to be milked by then.
One of my rituals was to allow the dog, who was also accompanying me to the barn, to get the ground squirrel, if there was one, out of the grain barrel. She did her job faithfully every morning chasing it out of the barn.
Once the horses were fed, I'd let the first goat in and up onto the stand, sit down, and wash her bag. The first squirt from each teat was squirted at the cat who stood patiently waiting for it about five feet away. Now, it was time to milk the goat.
The original painting is still available and is framed in a float frame style. It looks amazing.

I love this. You must paint more horses!
