Description
Hair follicle. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a section through a freeze- fractured hair follicle in the skin. The follicle, in the dermis of the skin, is surrounded by connective tissue (grey). It produces a hair (purple strand) that protrudes above the skin's surface (top). A sebaceous gland (light green, lower centre) secretes oily sebum onto the hair and the skin. Magnification x100 at 6x7cm size.
