Description
Epithelial gonorrhoea infection. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Neisseria gonorrhoeae bacteria (clusters of small round cells) and an epithelial cell (large structure, centre). Other epithelial cells are partially seen at top and at bottom right. Epithelial cells are the cells that make up the skin and the lining of internal body cavities and spaces. N. gonorrhoeae is a Gram-negative bacteria that causes the sexually transmitted infection gonorrhoea. Symptoms include vaginal or urethral discharge and a burning sensation on urination.
