Pigmentless and eyeless, the Alabama Cavefish (Speoplatyrhinus poulsoni) is considered one of the rarest and most imperiled fishes in the world. Only known from Key Cave, Lauderdale County, Alabama, this species is listed by World Conservation Monitoring Center as "critically endangered," by Nature Serve as a G1 "critically imperiled species," and by the IUCN as CR - critically endangered.
