The Esperson buildings are two historical buildings that enrich the Houston downtown landscape. We can see the circular temple structure on top of the taller Neils Esperson building from afar. I love walking by these buildings and thinking about the wonderful stories of how:
- the wife Mellie Esperson built the first ornate building to commemorate her husband;
- she later built the second shorter and simpler building under her name right next door;
- there are haunted stories of how Mellie still haunts the building.
There are so many great little details about the buildings, like the architect's plaque outside of the building, the building crest on the inside hand rails, and cow skull sculptural motifs on the outside (so Texan!).
