Description
Acetylcholine receptor. Molecular model showing the structure of a nicotinic acetlycholine receptor with a closed central pore. This receptor, for the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, controls electrical signalling between nerve and muscle cells. Attachment of an acetlycholine molecule triggers the rotation of proteins on the opposite side of the pore, opening it to allow the molecule through.
