Description
Rice Paper Butterflies taken at the Cockrell Butterly Center, Houston
The Cockrell Butterfly Center is located at the Houston Museum of Natural Science and opened in 1994. This three story glass structure is home to over a hundred spicies of beautiful butterflies The center is built to simulate a tropical rainforest to give the exact ambiance the butterflies, plant, and insects need to thrive and live comfortably. The center imports a thousand butterflies from butterfly farms around the world once a week and maintains about two thousand butterflies overall.
The paper kite, rice paper, or large tree nymph butterfly is known especially for its presence in butterfly greenhouses and live butterfly expositions. The paper kite is of Southeast Asian origin. The name Rice paper comes from the translucent quality of the wings
