Plasma cell. Coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of a plasma cell in a breast cancer biopsy. Its nucleus is dark blue and the green layers in the cytoplasm are rough endoplasmic reticulum. Collagen (brown) surrounds the plasma cell. Plasma cells are mature B lymphocytes (white blood cells) that produce and secrete antibodies during an immune response. Magnification x400 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
