Description
The North Thompson River is the northern branch of the Thompson River, the largest tributary of the Fraser River, in the Canadian province of British Columbia. It originates at the toe of the Thompson Glacier in the Premier Range of the Cariboo Mountains, west of the community of Valemount. The river flows generally south through the Shuswap Highland towards Kamloops where it joins the South Thompson River to form the main stem Thompson River.
For most of its length, the river is paralleled by Highway 5, and the Canadian National Railway (both of which cross the river a couple times). The North Thompson passes by several small communities, the most notable being Blue River, Clearwater, and Barriere.
Tributaries of the North Thompson River including the Albreda River,Thunder River, Mud Creek, Blue River,Mad River,Raft River. Clearwater River, and Barrire River. The names suggest various aspects of the river, which is calm and peaceful in this view, but for much of its length it is wild and boisterous.
The North Thompson's largest tributary is the Clearwater River, which joins at the town of Clearwater. The Clearwater River drains much of Wells Gray Provincial Park.
A notable feature along the North Thompson is Little Hells Gate, a mini-replica of the much larger Hells Gate rapids on the Fraser River. About 17.4 kilometres (10.8 mi) upstream from the small town of Avola, the North Thompson River is forced through a narrow chute only about 30 feet (9.1 m) wide, creating a rapid that resembles the Fraser's famous rapid. Many river rafting companies offer a variety of trips through the rapids.

. A little about me:
My name is Janet but I go by Jann, and I am originally from Ontario, Canada and have lived on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, since 1985.
I love the seacoast and mountains, so many of my photos are from British Columbia, Alberta, Vancouver Island, Nova Scotia, Cape Breton Island. My main photo themes are sea, coastal, villages, people, portraits, mountains, trees, lakes, waterfalls, flowers, nature, wildlife, birds, animals, landscapes, sunsets, and the great National Parks of Canada such as Jasper,Banff, Waterton, Cape Breton Highlands, Yoho, Glacier, Kootenay,Mt. Robson, Strathcona and others.
In the art world, I was initially trained as a Commercial Artist and Illustrator and eventually explored many other methods of art/style as well as other mediums. I work in pencil, ink, acrylics, watercolor and oil pastels. I have also enjoyed mosaic design and application, floor murals, wall murals, collapsible screens, floor cloths, graphic design. Explored sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, hand painted furniture, refinishing old frames with gold leaf or faux finishes, interior design and interior decorating.
With the advent of digital cameras I came to really enjoy photography both as an artistic expression as well as a foundation for capturing interesting and exciting compositions to be painted later.
My recent creative endeavour was graduating from a certified Cosmetology Program (hairstylist and esthetics) in March 2009.
I would like to build up an email list so I can let you know when I have posted new work. If you would like to participate, my email is jann.ash@hotmail.com
