Birds' eggs, historical artwork. This collection shows the variation in egg colours and patterns. Such patterning is mainly for camouflage, which helps to protect the eggs from predators. The eggs here are from tawny owl (top left), grey phalarope (top right), golden eagle (upper centre), white-tailed eagle (white, centre), eider duck (green), herring gull (lower centre), shoveler duck (bottom left), ruff (bottom right) and grasshopper warbler (pink, bottom centre).
