Description
This month, Jews observe Tisha B'av, meaning the ninth day of the month of Av. Though not as well known as Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur or Pesach, it is a most important holiday, in that we remember the destruction of the Holy Temple in Israel. Inside the leather pox strapped to the praying man's forehead are tiny parchment scrolls from the Torah. My father performed this ritual every morning, except on the Sabbath. The knowledge comforts me, and I know it comforted him.
