Jhina Alvarado is a Mexican- Korean self-taught artist based out of San Francisco who expresses herself using oil and encaustic wax. Jhina’s nostalgic oil paintings narrate relatable stories with intentional stylized technique. By covering the eyes of the subjects, Jhina urges viewers to confront each image honestly, resulting in communication between subject and viewer, viewer and artist and viewer and material.
“In my series, titled “Forgotten Memories”, I use oil paints to depict the untold stories from long forgotten photographs. Since many memories are shared, the identity of the person within each memory is inconsequential. The eyes are blocked out so that the viewer can take part of each memory as if it were their own. Because many memories are unclear and somewhat “fuzzy”, the encaustic wax also obscures the images as if the viewer, themselves, was trying to recall a past event, yet could not remember all of the details.” –Jhina Alvarado

America Martin is a Colombian-American fine artist based in Los Angeles. She is a traveler between mediums, insouciant in the conquest of new terrain. Martin’s favorite landscape is that of the human form, her work is distinguished by a command of line and color, making playful reference to both classic and indigenous art forms.

These artists will inspire, provoke, engage and mesmerize. With visual perceptions always changing, peek behind the stories told and you\'re sure to find the right artistic expression!
