South Coyote Buttes White Pocket more

Shutterrific.com (that's me) in conjunction with PhotographyOutdoors.com (Kevin Mikkelsen) are offering a new Photographic Expedition service for many areas in the beautiful Intermountain West. These guided trips will enable participants to see many geological wonders of the Colorado Plateau usually only seen in magazines.
The remote area of South Coyote Buttes and White Pocket in the Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness are the designated locations. Permits have already been acquired for both of these outings and there is a limit of 4 people per trip so call early!
Set your calendars for May 22-25th. These expeditions will run from Wednesday to Saturday, with each set of dates offering a little something different in the way of blooming flowers, potential for rain showers (great reflections of rock formations) and varying temperatures.
Day 1 (Wednesday) - We will plan to meet in Kanab, Ut at Parry's Lodge on Wednesday for orientation and to get to know everyone.
Day 2 (Thursday) - After a good nights rest we will travel east on Hwy 89 to venture out into the hoodoos of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. There are two locations we will be going to, so our first day will begin early. Sunrise is 6:46am. We have an approximately 45 mile drive, some of which includes dirt roads plus a 1 mile hike to the shooting location. A 5 am departure from Kanab will be required to capture these features at first light, an incredible sight to see! After shooting our first two locations we will take the afternoon to drive to our camp at Cottonwood Cove just outside the boundary of the wilderness area comprising South Coyote Buttes. After we set up camp there will be time for some dutch oven cooking plus more time to photograph interesting red rock features at sunset.
Day-3 (Friday) - We will plan to explore the vast area of SCB by waking before sunrise to walk out from our camp 1/2 mile to our shooting location. Exploration in this area is what its all about. Take your time to look around and see what there is to see. After an extended morning of photography we will head back to break camp and have lunch prior to traveling over to White Pocket for an evening of shooting and that will be our camp for the night.
Day-4 (Saturday) - Rising early we will get to our sunrise spots at White Pocket (200 yards from camp) and enjoy the incredible sights of rock formations not seen anywhere else in the world. After we conclude photography for the morning we will make our way back to Kanab and depart.
These two Photographic Expeditions include the following:
~Transporation from Kanab to the Hoodoos, South Coyote Buttes, White Pocket and back to Kanab, Utah.
~ Meals- A light breakfast (usually oatmeal/granola/yogurt,etc) will be made available on Friday and Saturday mornings. Thursday breakfast will be up to each participant since we are leaving Kanab early. Lunches (usually deli-meat sandwiches/chips) will be provided on Thursday and Friday. Two dutch oven dinners will be provided on Thursday and Friday nights (those who have tasted my wifes D.O. chicken will attest to its awesomeness!) All other snacks and drinks will be up to each participant.
~ Not included: Camping/Sleeping gear. Remember, we will be out in a very remote location so you will need to plan for your own sleeping arrangements and personal necessities. (note: a camp shovel will be on hand for primitive bathroom needs). There will be no cell phone service so please prepare accordingly. Also since we will be in a desert environment be sure to bring plenty of fluids. First aid items should also be considered.
~ Cost is per person is $850 for all three days, which of course includes guided instruction and taking participants to key locations and features.
