A recital and exhibition to raise funds for the ministry of SPA (Scripture Prayer & Action) at St Stephens, the London Internet Church and other venues.
The Recital will include pieces by Chopin and other composers and in particular we will hear ’Nocturne No 20 In C sharp minor’ which was published posthumously. The piece was famously played by Holocaust survivor Natalia Karp for the Nazi concentration camp commandant Amon Goeth, with Goeth being so impressed with the rendition, that he spared Karp's life . The recital finishes on a lighter note with Bishop Michael and Roy Hyslop entertaining us with some songs by Noel Coward and Irving Berlin.
The Exhibition: It was in March 2012 that Bishop Michael travelled to New York along with the Rev’d Soon Han Choi and Roy Hyslop to take-up the interim rectorship at The Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest on 5th Avenue (affectionately known as ‘the church of the celestial snooze!’). The Rectory is further down 5th Avenue overlooking Central Park and it was here that, Roy took on the task of filling the gallery with art; many of the visitors and guests urged them to make the paintings available for sale. As the time in NYC came to an end this was done, and some were purchased in New York.
The paintings have now been brought over to London and are available to purchase here in London, proceeds being donated to the work of SPA (Scripture Prayer Action) here at St Stephen Walbrook. Prices range from £50 to £600
