This very expressive type of painting uses marks to signify emotion at the moment the paint is applied to the painting's surface. A gesture of the visible characteristics and intangible essence of the figure. "Sensationalism" is were the visual and the emotional sensation collide.

I have found that instructing artist with painting knives to be hugely valuable to the painters understanding of brush or knife control, paint application, creating textures, paint thickness, accurate color mixing skills to create space. I like to insist that all painters spend a year with painting knives. The benefits can be appreciated by the STUDIO or PLEIN-AIR painter. This should not be overlooked by any serious painter. All Levels Welcome, Acrylic or Oil Paint.
