ART EXHIBITION Duration: 21st Dec 2012 - 3rd Feb 2013
Maya 2012: Portals of Infinity is a collection of digital montages, acrylic paintings and etchings mainly about the ancient Maya to celebrate the passage from one great Age to another, as well as a metaphor for the passage from an outer profane space to an inner sacred space.
According to the Mayan calendar the 21st December 2012 marked the end of a great 5125 year cycle of time. The Maya see this date as the beginning of a New Era, not the End of the World, as western culture has depicted it. They see it as a time of great celebration.
What does it all mean?
Mayan Day-keepers view the Dec. 21, 2012 date as a rebirth, a portal to the World of the Fifth Sun. It was the start of a new era resulting from and signified by the solar meridian crossing the galactic equator and the Earth aligning itself with the center of the galaxy.”At sunrise on December 21, 2012 for the first time in 26,000 years the Sun rose to conjunct the intersection of the Milky Way and the plane of the ecliptic. This cosmic cross is considered to be an embodiment of the Sacred Tree, The Tree of Life, a tree remembered in all the world’s spiritual traditions.
You can choose to open a door and walk through, or you can leave it closed. But if you don’t open it you will never know what may have been. Being an explorer at heart I cannot resist and have to open the door.
