Arts from the peace Art Show Winnipeg Nuwan Fonseka

It is with great excitement that I share with you news of “arts from the peace” my solo art show being held in Winnipeg, MB.
I will be exhibiting works with the The Edge Gallery (Main & Logan) 210-611 Main Street, Winnipeg, this February 27-28th 12 – 6 pm (Artist meet on 27th and 28th afternoons from 4 – 6 pm).
The war was a tragedy for Sri Lankans of all stripes, and during our time here, I’ve found it hard to believe that such a conflict was even possible. For over 30 years, this civil war caused significant hardships for the population, environment and the economy of the country, with an estimated 150,000–200,000 people killed during its course.
As might be imagined, psychological tensions are still high on the island. It will take decades for the wounds of war to heal and, even if peace proves sustainable, there will always be scars.
As we all know times of war usually inspire artists to express their position on the conflict, considering some were probably snatched up for propaganda campaigns, and others present the war as accurately and neutrally as possible--like photographers and abstracts.
As a Sri Lankan citizen and artist I am happy that the conflict and war has ended once for all, promising period of hope, peace and progress for the country.
As an artist the beauty of the peace inspire me to capture the emotion and dynamics of human life like happiness, love and joyfulness.
