Art on the River and Music festival will return to the banks of the Black River in downtown Port Huron on June 8th and 9th in 2013!
The party will begin on June 8th with the arrival of the Traveling Michigan Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The Michigan Vietnam Veterans Traveling Memorial will arrive in the Blue Water Area on the morning of June 8th. There will be a motorcycle and police escort, to bring the Memorial in to Port Huron. Legion Riders will be assisted by the St. Clair County Sheriff\\\\\\\'s Department, Marysville Police Department and Port Huron Police and Fire Departments in escorting the Memorial to the Art on the River event site. They will travel from Marysville starting around 8:10 a.m., heading south on Gratiot. They will continue onto Military (along the river front) and head into Port Huron on Military, reaching the Art on the River event site around 8:45 a.m. We encourage anyone who would like to view this amazing procession to be along the route by 8:00 a.m. to pay your respects as they head to Art on the River. They will set up and a ceremony for the Memorial will begin at approximately 9:30 a.m. There will be several dignitaries in attendance to welcome the Memorial to Port Huron. The Michigan Vietnam Veterans Traveling Memorial will stay at Art on the River for the entire weekend. To learn more about the Memorial, you can find them online at www.vva154.com/movingwall.htm
The Lake Bonisteel Music Association acoustic stage will be located in Heritage Park on the balcony of the blue loft buiding. That stage will feature many local acoustic musicians.
The main stage, located in the West Quay Street Parking lot, under the direction of Reg Nicholas, will feature rock, easy listening, big band and blues bands among others.
On June 8th at 9 p.m., national touring band Steepwater, will take the stage as the headline band. The main stage is sponsored by Lynchs Irish Tavern in downtown Port Huron.
There will be several art and music workshops being held throughout the two day event. Local art incubator, Studio 1219 will hold hands-on art workshops along with many others. Check the Art on the River Facebook page for scheduling closer to the event. www.facebook.com/artontheriver.
The beer tent will feature local certified sommelier, Andy Bakko, of Wolverine Market in Port Huron. Andy will feature all Michigan beers and wines. The beer tent is sponsored by Gerry\\\\\\\'s Distributing of Port Huron. Art on the River features many fine artists and crafters with many different types of arts and crafts for people to purchase. There is such a wide range of items to chose from it\\\\\\\'s sometimes hard to decide! Make sure you check out all the arts and crafts being featured!
The event will run from 9:30 a.m. (with the ceremony for the Traveling Michigan Memorial at that time) until midnight on June 8th and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on June 9th. Come show your support for our local artists, crafters, musicians, businesses and non-profits.
