This Fall the Coalition on Homelessness will present ArtAuction13: Transforming Art into Action / Standing Up For Human Rights, a live and silent auction, on Thursday, September 12, at the SomArts Gallery in San Francisco’s SoMa District. Don McCunn's print "The Son Also Rises," a composite derived from James McNeill Whistler’s "Portrait of Artist’s Mother," has been selected for inclusion in the auction.
For thirteen years, Bay Area arts communities have lent their support to the Coalition on Homelessness in its struggles to ensure that homeless people’s voices are heard wherever policy discussions turn to homelessness and housing. The funds raised through the auction go to the printing of the Street Sheet as well as to advocacy work that leads to increased housing and civil rights protection for homeless people in San Francisco. The annual art auction provides a substantial portion of the Coalition's budget.
The admission price is $35 although nobody will be turned away for lack of funds
